The Latvian State Forest Arboretum in Kalsnava is a green courtyard of the Latvian State Forests, gathering natural rarities from all over the world. The LVM Arboretum’s native tree species test their hardiness in Latvia’s climatic conditions, while creating a colourful green environment that introduces and delights visitors with the diversity of tree species. Through the wondrous collection of woody plants, you can discover the diversity of nature in the shapes and colours of tree crowns, leaves and flowers.

The word “arbor” means “tree” in Latin, so the Arboretum offers a variety of woody plants from lands near and far, which can surprise in every season.

GREEN HIGH SCHOOL – educational and creative activities experienced in nature. During the various activities, students take on the roles of nature explorers and detectives, discovering together the amazing diversity of nature. Green Yard School lessons are an opportunity to get ideas and take them back to your school yard!

LVM FOREST EXPEDITION – In line with the science standard, students on a forest expedition will understand how the knowledge acquired in school science can be applied in everyday life, become aware of human impact on forest ecosystems through practical and creative tasks, and gain an understanding of how to preserve forests for future generations.

OPTION

• Guided tour – on an educational hike through the arboretum, you will see and learn interesting facts about tree species and get to know their great diversity.
  Duration: up to 90 min.
  Price: 3,00 EUR/student; 8,00 EUR/adult + 30,00 EUR/guide.

We invite you to sign up for a guided Olympic hike, during which you will perform various physical tasks and learn about the forest, its processes and the importance of forest management.

Green Yard School – educational lessons about nature and forest processes.

The following lessons are available:

Colour Hunt – we will focus on the diversity of nature, the different shades in branches, flowers, bark, fruit.

SeedAdventure – we will learn about the adventures a seed can get into. Let’s learn about the development of the plant, the dangers and the diversity of seeds.

Water on the trail – during the lesson we will look for answers to the question: where does water go?

The unknownin the unknown – Biorefining – during the lesson we will discover what biorefining is and what can be gained from it.

In the footsteps of a natureresearcher – let’s become nature researchers by applying the methods used in science to study nature.

At the end of the excursion, the day will be made even more exciting by a climb up the 25-metre-high observation tower, which offers an unforgettable panorama at any time of the year! You can also enjoy the delicacies you have brought with you at the nearby rest areas.
