ABOUT US
“Getliņi EKO operates the largest municipal solid waste landfill in the Baltic States. We are a company open to the public – everyone has the opportunity to participate in an educational tour in person or remotely. Our belief is that by telling, showing and sharing our experience, we help to give the right impression of how a landfill works, how energy is produced, how waste is recycled and how the environment is protected.
Our free daily tours are visited by groups of schools, companies and friends, business people and foreign visitors. Up to 350 tour groups, seminar participants and other interested parties visit the Getliņi landfill every year. In total, almost 9000 people come to visit us every year, take part in environmental education activities and leave more knowledgeable.
OFFER
We offer a free excursion in English or Latvian on weekdays for any age group from 6 years upwards. We welcome groups of 10 to 30 people.
Visitors from the age of 10 are provided with audio devices for the duration of the tour, with adjustable volume to improve audibility. If necessary, the guide can simplify the language to suit the needs of the group.
The tours are accessible for wheelchair users and visitors with reduced mobility.
During group tours we will introduce you to:

How to sort waste in a landfill and in everyday life;

Recycling of biodegradable waste;

Construction of a waste disposal cell, wastewater collection and landfill gas production;

Operation of the energy block from gas extraction to electricity and heat production;

Modern greenhouses, their technologies and innovative solutions;

The link between landfill operations and the circular economy.

The walking route of the landfill excursion is complemented by a trip up the waste hill by bus. This makes it easier for younger visitors and people with reduced mobility to get around, shelter from bad weather and see the towers of Riga from the top of Getliņi Hill.
