In early 2019, the modern reconstructed Lapmežciems Parish Museum opened its doors to visitors.
The focus of the museum’s exhibition is the fisherman in his economic activity and his environment. It tells the story of the various forms of life and work of the fisherman through the ages. The history of the Lapmežciems area is closely linked to fishing, which is revealed in the exhibition by archaeological objects, which testify to the fishing activities of the ancient inhabitants, as well as by historical documents, maps and drawings, which show both territorial and economic changes in the daily life of the fishermen. Photographs, as well as fishing and household objects, tell of the close relationship between the home step, work and leisure, with the sea at their centre, and the everyday life and working life of fishermen in the 19th and 20th centuries. Interactive activities allow to explore the Lapmežciems surroundings both in its ancient place names and in the richness of its environment.
