Liepniekvalka (Peldanga) Cave
Talsu novads

On the banks of Liepniekvalka, a sandstone outcrop has formed, where springs have washed out a labyrinth of caves and underground passages unusual in Latvia. The outcrop is about 5 m high and 20 m wide and is made of grey sandstone of the Devonian, Arukil and Burtnieki suites. It is a complex system of narrow underground caves with five entrances. The total length of the caves reaches 70 m – one of the longest natural cave labyrinths in Latvia. It consists of one larger and two smaller branched chambers connected by tunnels. Several pillars and sandstone poles have formed in the caves.

After the caves were filled in, they were excavated, but can only be seen from the outside, as the passages further underground were filled in with sand.
