To Sigulda by train or bus – adventure, leisure and history in one day

The surroundings of Sigulda offer a great opportunity to combine an educational excursion with active leisure and tasty revelations. Adventure game – EscapeTown

Start your excursion with an exciting adventure in EscapeTown, Sigulda.

It is convenient to go to Sigulda by train – you save transport costs and your students will enjoy pleasant rides while observing the Latvian landscapes. EscapeTown has made sure that you don’t have to worry about your onward transport once you arrive at the station: EscapeTown provides a bus from Sigulda train station to the EscapeTown campus and back. The bus is for up to 45 passengers and the price is €200 for the whole group – a convenient solution that allows teachers and organisers to focus on the programme and not on logistics.

EscapeTown is a unique entertainment campus where students are engaged in a variety of role-plays and puzzle-solving activities, from detective investigations to fantasy adventures. Each task requires not only logical thinking, but also the ability to cooperate and communicate with a team, making this activity a particularly valuable addition to the learning process: it fosters cooperation, creativity and problem-solving skills in a real, immersive environment.

Tasting adventure

If you have a coach hire planned for the tour and the group has the freedom to move around Sigulda, you can start or continue the day after active fun with a tasting adventure at Sigulda Ice Cream Parlour, located in the historic Sigulda New Castle complex. Here, students will not only taste a variety of delicious ice creams made from local dairy products, but also learn about the food production process, quality control and the role of the local producer in the region’s economy. This tasting is not only a treat, but also an informal lesson on entrepreneurship and the role of rural producers in Latvia. The Castle Park, where the cold store is located, is a beautiful stopping-off point in itself – students can enjoy the fresh air and the romantic 19th century architecture.

Active recreation in Sigulda

Sigulda is known as the capital of active leisure in Latvia and the surrounding area offers a wide range of leisure activities for school groups, so you can continue your excursion with one of the activities available in Sigulda. Choose an activity according to your group’s interests and age:

Poligon 1 Active Recreation Park in Sigulda – laser tag and other activities. Poligon 1 offers adrenaline-fuelled combat simulations in a natural environment, where students divide into teams and play a tactical game with lasertag equipment. This is a great opportunity to train not only physical endurance, but also strategic thinking, listening and team coordination. The park also regularly organises other activities such as obstacle courses and orienteering challenges. Suitable for both younger and older students. Prices: from 3 € to 35 € .

KLIKK Centre – a leisure and entertainment centre with a wide range of activities. The KLIKK Centre is a modern entertainment complex that combines multi-generational play elements in one place – jumps, climbing walls, obstacle courses and much more. Students can get active in a safely equipped environment. The centre regularly updates its offer, so every visit can bring something new. Prices: from €2 to €200.

The Minotaur Labyrinth – a challenge for orientation and logical thinking. This natural maze is designed to test your ability to orient yourself in space, think systematically and remain calm even when it seems that there is no way out. For the pupils, it is both entertainment and a real lesson in geography and spatial thinking. The Minotaur Labyrinth complements the educational part of the excursion well, as it gives a sense of adventure with an intellectual character. Price: EUR 3/person.

Learning about history and culture

Finish your excursion with a visit to the Turaida Museum Reserve – one of the most important and beautiful monuments of cultural history in Latvia. The Turaida Museum Reserve covers a wide part of the Gauja Valley and brings together several historical attractions: the red brick towers of the 13th century Turaida Castle, the Dainu Hill with its folk song memorial stone, an ancient cemetery and well-kept parks along the Gauja riverbank. During the excursion, pupils get a vivid insight into Latvia’s medieval history, learn about the presence of the Livonian Order in this land and get to know the story of the Rose of Turaida – Maija, whose story has become a symbol of love and loyalty of the Latvian people.

The reserve offers guided programmes for school groups, adapted to different age groups and subjects – history, literature and natural sciences. The Gauja National Park, in which the reserve is located, adds to the visit the opportunity to observe the diversity of landscapes, natural processes and the beauty of seasonal changes. The Turaida Museum Reserve is a place where history is not dry and abstract, but alive, tangible and inspiring.
