Survival School – adventure hikes and team-building activities in Ogre, Baldone and Pāvilosta
SURVIVAL SCHOOL – useful skills, mutual respect, teamwork
Survival School offers pupils a full day of outdoor adventure, combining a hike with practical survival skills, team challenges, the basics of first aid and working together. The aim of the programme is not only to teach pupils useful skills, but also to foster mutual respect, responsibility, determination and the ability to work together as a team.
The offer is suitable for pupils aged 10–18 and is available at three locations in Latvia – the Blue Mountains in Ogre, ‘Riekstukalns’ in Baldone and Pāvilosta. This allows schools to choose the most geographically convenient venue, whilst maintaining the unified concept of the Survival School programme.
Learn to survive so that you can live life to the full!
The Survival School programme focuses on the personal development of children and young people. Pupils learn fundamental life values, how to work as a team, and acquire practical survival skills that can help them ensure both their own safety and that of those around them.
Over the past ten years, around 7,000 children, young people and adults have taken part in the Survival School’s training programmes.
💬 FEEDBACKS on the Survival School
– “I had a brilliant time with my class!! It’s great to breathe in the fresh air. I learnt how to light a campfire. I hadn’t walked through the woods like that for ages. It was definitely worth it; I’d go again.”(pupil Artūrs)
– “A huge thank you for today’s event, which captivated absolutely everyone. The children were very interested. An excellent instructor who paid attention to every child. He both joked around and taught them lots of new skills.”(teacher Ineta)
🧭 What will the pupils do on the adventure hike?
The Survival School programme is designed so that pupils spend most of the day working independently, completing tasks and collaborating with their classmates.
Groups of pupils set off on a 4–7 km hike along forest tracks. The hike is led by an instructor who oversees both the activities and the participants’ safety.
Time: 9.30 am to 3.30 pm.
Season: autumn, winter and spring.
Age of participants: 10–18 years.
Pupils:
- will complete team tasks that foster mutual cooperation and friendship;
- will discuss and gain practical experience of values such as respect, responsibility and determination;
- take part in physical activities in the great outdoors;
- will learn the basic principles of survival and how to act in crisis situations;
- learn how to light a fire in various ways;
- search for signposts and necessary resources;
- prepare lunch over a campfire they have lit themselves;
- learn how to administer first aid for bleeding wounds;
- carry out a practical ‘injured person’ evacuation;
- cross an improvised ‘river’;
- navigate a ‘blind snake’ maze.
At the end of the programme, each participant and teacher receives a small commemorative prize from the Survival School.
Why choose this for your class? The programme combines outdoor activity with practical life skills and class bonding. Many of the tasks cannot be completed individually – pupils must communicate, trust one another, take responsibility and work together to find a solution.
