About the exhibition

A complex of 20th-century buildings: a farmhouse (a 100-year-old building transferred to the museum), a barn, a black or smoke bath, a forge, a pottery workshop with a kiln room. Ancient tools and household objects are displayed in them. The museum has 2 rooms for seminars and parties.
By prior arrangement, you can taste the “wonders” of Latgale’s culinary heritage – maple cakes, ship, pearl barley porridge, which in Andrupene is called “pancak with cymus”, asuskas, cheese, butter with garlic and herbs, herbal tea.
After a hearty meal, you can walk along the Andrupenė marsh path with the intoxicating smell of chervil, pink cranberries and the sound of bird calls.

The museum offers three museum-educational programmes within the framework of the “Latvian School Bag”:

1.The Story of Latgale Bread
The aim is to create awareness of the process of making rye bread, the preparation of sourdough starter, the utensils needed for making bread, the terminology specific to Latgale, bread baking and the traditions associated with it in Latgale. The programme is suitable for children in the older groups of preschool institutions, as well as for pupils in the age groups of 1st-4th grade, 5th-9th grade, secondary school pupils, and students. The duration of the lesson is 40 min. with a talk and demonstration, up to 1.5 h (depending on the size of the group), with practical work and bread baking.

2. From clay to ceramics in Latgale
Aim: to create awareness of the diversity of uses of clay, the industry and its specific development in Latgale, with a particular focus on the traditional skills of Latgalian potters. The programme is suitable for children in the older age groups of pre-school institutions, pupils in grades 1-4, grades 5-9, secondary school pupils, as well as students. The duration of the class – narration and demonstration – from 30 to 45min, with practical clay work – up to 1h (depending on the size of the group).

3. The story of Latgale flax
Aim – To give an idea about the flax culture as an important part of the cultural identity of Latvia, especially Latgale, as well as about the flax culture of the 20th century. the aim of the project is to highlight the importance of flax as a cultural heritage of Latgale and as a part of the Latvian culture. The programme is suitable for children in the older groups of pre-school institutions, as well as for pupils in the age groups of 1st-4th grade, 5th-9th grade, secondary school pupils, as well as for students. The duration of the session – narration and demonstration – is about 30 minutes, with up to 1 hour of practical work (depending on the size of the group).
