New Sklidža meeting house – library
Jaunklidzis, Plāņu pagasts, Valmieras novads

Opened in 2010, the New Skiddzis Community Centre is a place where the boundaries between a library and a multicultural centre have merged. Designed by architect Armands Bisenieks, the single-storey meeting house resembles an old Latvian rioja, in which Latvian building traditions and proportions have been carried over from the historic Vidzeme rijas with their characteristic archetype. The prototype is the 1785 meeting house “Mežuļi” in Plani parish, which has been a cultural and historical treasure in the Ethnographic Open-Air Museum of Latvia since 1940. The Jaunklidža meeting house-library is one of 59 small “light palaces” in Latvia.
