The exhibition “Freedom Road

It tells about the struggle for freedom and independence of the Republic of Latvia and the people of Ogre region. The exhibition provides an understanding of the continuity of the Freedom Road, the heroism and sacrifices shown by the inhabitants of Latvia and Ogre region in the name of Freedom. The exhibition highlights important events in the struggle for independence of Latvia, including in Ogre municipality, and highlights important personalities of Ogre municipality – participants of historical events.

On the first and second floors of the museum, the visitor is offered to follow the Freedom Road from the beginning of the 20th century, when thoughts about the independence of Latvia were born, passing along the trench of the Latvian Riflemen and the War of Independence, arriving at their own country. The exhibition emphasises that the struggle for one’s country and independence continued throughout the long years of occupation, ending in 1990-1991. Finally, a reflection on the defence of the country.

In addition, on the first floor of the museum there is a Study Auditorium where, accompanied by a museum educator, you can learn about the history of the Ogre Battalion of the Home Guard of the Republic of Latvia.

On the third floor of the museum, accompanied by a museum specialist, you can experience the excursion “Us or Them”. It takes place in a specially designed space that allows you to get emotionally close to the brutal Russian aggression in Ukraine.
