Pūčkuru educational trail
Pūčkorių Educational Trail, Vilnius
In Vilnius, near the Belmont Recreation Area, the 6 km-long Puccory Nature Trail is one of the most spectacular trails in the capital. The trail starts at the bridge over the Vilnelė River and passes several historic buildings of the Puccory estate, including the famous cannon foundry that gave the place its name. The trail reveals the enchanting beauty of the Vilnelė valley, and the most impressive natural attraction is the 65-metre-high Pūčkoru outcrop, which is a sight to admire from above and below.
Most of the trail follows the Vilnel river, and if you get tired of hiking, you can paddle back to the city centre instead. A 2-hour kayak ride is offered in several places, starting at Belmont Dam and ending at the White Bridge in the centre of Vilnius.
The route is well maintained with wooden stairs, bridges and information boards. Along the way you can enjoy babbling brooks, chirping birds and blooming flowers. The trail, complemented by views such as the stunning Belmont Waterfall and historical sites such as the Puccori Mound, offers a great break from the hustle and bustle of the city.
