ABOUT THE MUSEUM

Rainis’ birthplace Tadenava is the cradle of his philosophy of sun and love. The sun motif plays a leading role in the exhibition. The sun, which rolls across the sky all day long, will be the museum visitor’s guide to Tadenava.

After the renovation of the museum (2016), an exhibition-game is on display in the dwelling house, where every visitor has the opportunity to explore Rainis’ literary heritage through interactive games. It also reveals the scenes of Rainis’ childhood, the role of his father Krišjānis, mother Dārta and sister Līze in the small space of Rainis’ childhood – Tadenava.

Museum pedagogical programme “Nature Observations in Rainis’ Poetry

  • Age group: 5.-9th grade
  • Duration: 3h
  • Number of participants: up to 15

The museum pedagogical lesson starts at the Rainis Museum “Tadenava”- Rainis’ children’s poetry depicting different species of birds is viewed and analysed. The children learn to identify the species mentioned and other bird species similar to them, such as the titmouse and the wood titmouse, the crested titmouse, etc. The second part of the lesson takes place in the nature reserve “Eglone”, where a 5 km long hike is made, including the nature trail (1.4 km) created in the area. This stage is a practical application of the information learned in the first part: birds are seen, their voices are heard and recognised, and Rainis’ poetry is analysed in nature.
