Rundāle Watermill Museum – guided tours for schoolchildren and families
The Rundāle Watermill Museum is situated in a scenic location by the mill lake, just about 1 km from the Rundāle Palace Museum. Here, schoolchildren and families can learn about the history of grain processing and watermills, explore the historic mill building and combine an educational tour with a relaxing break by the water.
🌾 About the Rundāle Watermill Museum
The museum’s exhibition is spread over five floors and offers an insight into the history of grain processing and how watermills once operated. Visitors can follow the production process, explore the historic building and enjoy beautiful views from the mill.
The tour can be complemented by other activities on the complex’s grounds – relaxing by the reservoir, using boats, catamarans or SUP boards, and having a picnic. Next to the mill, there is also a children’s play area with a trampoline and picnic tables.
👩🏫 Tours for school groups
The Rundāle Watermill Museum is ideal for an educational school trip, during which pupils can learn about the principles behind how a watermill works and the history of grain processing.
Guided tours are available in Latvian and Russian. The tour lasts approximately 50–60 minutes.
It is recommended to book group tours and guide services in advance.

- Pre-school children – free of charge;
- groups of pre-school children of more than 5 people – 1.50 EUR per person;
- schoolchildren – 4.50 EUR per person;
- school groups of more than 10 people – €4.00 per person;
- for university students – 5.00 EUR per person;
- adults – €7.00 per person;
- pensioners – 4.00 EUR per person;
- people with disabilities – €4.00 per person.

- Groups of 1 to 15 people – 35.00 EUR;
- for groups of 16 or more people – 40.00 EUR.

The Rundāle Watermill Museum is also suitable for family visits. Family tickets are available:
- 1 adult and 2–4 schoolchildren – 10.00 EUR;
- 2 adults and 2–4 schoolchildren – 15.00 EUR.
On presentation of the Latvian ‘3+ Family Card’ certificate, a 50 per cent discount applies to family tickets.
🚣 Additional activities
A visit to the museum can be combined with leisure activities on the complex’s grounds. Water equipment is available upon prior booking:
- boats;
- SUP boards;
- catamarans.
There is also a picnic area, a children’s play area with a trampoline and a spacious car park. Coffee, various drinks, ice cream, snacks and souvenirs are available for purchase within the museum complex.
You can also combine your visit with nearby attractions – Rundāle Palace Museum is located approximately 1 km from the mill.
