Vējturu House in Jūrkalne – a place for culture and relaxation. The very name of the House of Winds reveals its ability to hold the wind and protect the person at the centre of the House. It is a natural concert hall that allows for outdoor events of all scales and character.
The House of the Winds was not built on an empty site. It dates back to 2003, when musician and artist Igo organised the first Jūrkalne clean-up. Every year, Igo’s like-minded friends and friends of Jūrkalne have contributed their personal money, time and work. The municipality also got involved and implemented major development projects – the Ugunspļavas Stage and the Vējturu House. As a result, what was an overgrown meadow 13 years ago is now a celebration of the summer solstice with several thousand visitors and other events. Going forward, it is the Vējturu House that will allow the range and scope of events to expand, further developing Jūrkalne as a music and arts epicentre.
