The Galvassega Ethno-Museum will introduce you to a large collection of unusual exhibits. Exhibits from all over the world have been collected and carefully arranged. The World of Hats Museum boasts real cultural gems from different nations.

Here you will see ritual and traditional headdresses, hats in unusual shapes, hats for unusual purposes, hats made of miraculous materials and hats that have come to us from distant centuries!

The headdresses on display in the museum have always been the quintessence of folk costume – they reflect the traditions and culture of the people. Here you can see the traditional hats of the world’s peoples: ancient gilded clogs, jewelled crowns, magical African helmets – masks and the spectacular Asian shaman hats.

The collection was founded by the scientist and traveller Kirill Babayev. He has brought to Riga hundreds of different headdresses representing many cultures of bygone or vanished ethnoses.

at the “World Hat Museum” you can not only see these hats, but also photograph them and try them on.

And those who want to delve into the history of headdresses and learn how to weave wreaths and make hats are welcome to the museum’s expert lectures and masterclasses, which will be held in Latvian, Russian and English.

Guided tours

Professional guides will enthusiastically and easily introduce you to the nooks and crannies of history, reveal the secrets of unusual headdresses and immerse you in the atmosphere of the traditions of the world’s peoples. We offer interesting tours in three languages (EN, RU, LV) – choose the most convenient one!

Masterclasses:
During the Masterclasses, your child can get creative in a fun atmosphere and at the same time learn interesting facts about the cultures of different nations!
All this takes place in our hat workshops. Here, children will learn about traditional ethnic hats from different nations and create their own unique hat.
We offer the necessary materials, teach design techniques and help them to spend their time in a useful and bored-free way. In addition, we tell interesting facts about the cultural peculiarities of the countries based on the specifics of traditional headgear.
This is a good way for children of all agesto spend time!

Adults enjoy our events too! This month we are planning masterclasses on the unique hat you have created in our “Hat World” museum. It’s a wonderful opportunity to dive into the world of tradition, discover your own creativity, learn about different hat-making techniques, materials and tools. You can create a unique headdress that will be in line with the production canons of this or that nation. You will do it in your own style and enjoy a guided tour of the museum.
