ABOUT US
We invite you to join us on an exciting journey of discovery at the Space Discovery Centre in Cesis – a place where science, technology, innovation and hands-on activities intertwine in a unique experience. This centre is unique in Latvia: with an exhibition on three floors. Activities and an interactive environment allow students not only to observe, but also to act, experiment and discover that space is actually closer than we think. The Space Exploration Centre can help schools and pre-schools to meet the objectives of the Skola2030 Competence Approach in science, mathematics and technology by offering an innovative learning environment and services.

Study tour:
During the learning excursion, the student searches for answers about the most important discoveries of mankind in different periods of time, learns about the current developments in the space industry, and tests the skills needed for astronauts to live beyond planet Earth. The Centre’s exhibits make the link between the space industry and the curriculum taught at school.
Guided tours last 2 hours.
Workshop:
Lessons designed using an interdisciplinary learning approach.
The process involves solving a variety of problems related to space topics and industry. All lessons include the learning outcomes in the areas of science, mathematics, and technology, as set out in the National Standard for Primary Education and the Model Curricula for Primary Education.
Working in teams, the workshops challenge students to develop new solutions for space rockets and lunar rovers, and to find answers to a variety of exciting questions related to the space industry. They will also explore what exactly they could do in the space industry and see the vast possibilities!
The workshops are designed for the following age groups: grades 1-3, grades 4-6, grades 7-9 and grades 10-12. Workshop duration 1h 30min.
Workshop for pre-school:
The Space Exploration Centre offers a workshop for pre-school children with the aim of getting children interested in space and the all-important STEM subjects. The session introduces the different space vehicles, explains how astronauts live on the space station in preparation for their mission and gives children the opportunity to build their own rockets!
The content of the lesson includes the Big Ideas of the Universe from the Science curriculum and the Big Ideas of the Properties, Positions and Characteristics of Shapes from the Mathematics curriculum in the Skola2030 pre-primary curriculum in Key Stage 3.
