Kalnansu Bog is located 28 km from Kuldīga, near Kabile. A wooden footbridge about 1 km long winds through the forest to the marsh itself and to the marsh lake “Bezdibenis”, which is located there. The footbridge is easy for wheelchair users and parents with pushchairs. There is a well-equipped area with a table and benches by the bog lake, where you can relax and enjoy the landscape of the bog.
In August and September you can see the magnificent diversity of nature in the high moss bog. There is a rich variety of berries: cloudberries, blueberries, bilberries, chanterelles, cranberries, lingonberries and the inedible snake berries.
Old publications said that Bezdibenis could be the deepest lake in Latvia, reaching a depth of 93-117 metres, but an accurate echolote from the Latvian Natural Curiosity Repository showed that the lake was only ~10 metres deep with a layer of mud still about half as deep.
Before the Second World War, peat was extracted in small quantities from Kalnansu Bog, but nowadays economic activities are prohibited.
