The Tukums Art Museum is known for its outstanding collection of Latvian art, which was started in the first half of the 1930s by the artist Leonīds Āriņš (1907-1991). Inspired by him, many outstanding Latvian artists of the time donated their works to the museum.

The museum’s collection includes works by Janis Rozentāls, Janis Walters, Vilhelms Purvītis, Jēkabs Kazāks, Ģederts Elias, Leo Svemps, Voldemārs Tone, Konrāds Ubāns, Ugs Skulmes, Janis Tīdemāns and many others. The most significant place in the collection of paintings is occupied by the works of three Tukums artists – Ansis Artums (1908-1997), Leonīds Āriņš (1907-1991) and Kārlis Neilis (1906-1991).

The museum regularly organises exhibitions of works by Latvian artists. For more than ten years it has been offering the educational programme “For the Paintings Together”.

EXHIBITIONS

Virtual exhibition “Tukums Art Museum Through the Ages”

On a touch-sensitive screen you can view more than 250 paintings by 110 artists from the collection of the Tukums Art Museum, as well as gain insight into the history of the museum.

You can digitally create an electronic card from fragments of paintings – by virtually selecting several fragments of paintings and putting them together into one image. You can send the artwork you have created to yourself or to someone close to you by e-mail and share it on social networks.

The project was supported by the State Culture Capital Foundation and the Tukums Municipality Council.

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME

“Let’s Share Paintings”

On the basis of the Museum’s collection of paintings, individual works from the collection and art exhibitions, participants of the programme learn to view, analyse and understand a work of art, as well as to receive impulses for independent creative activity.
