ABOUT US

The Straw Museum is a unique museum created by the Rītiņš family, the only one of its kind in Latvia and Europe! The museum displays more than 600 different straw/hay sculptures – from very small images to large, amazing sculptures and thematic collections. This is a place where simple material is transformed into art.

EXCURSIONS ON OFFER

  • Excursion to the Straw Museum “Straw’s extraordinary transformations”. (Duration 50 min.)

At the Straw Museum, pupils and children will discover the main exhibition of straw/hay sculptures, which are arranged in several thematic collections, such as the bird collection, the animal collection, etc. Pupils will learn how a natural material such as straw or hay is transformed into unique works of art or design attractions.
After exploring the museum, pupils are invited to participate in a straw workshop where they can create their own straw/hay figurine. During the activity, students will learn new skills, feel the material and take on the role of a craftsman, sculptor or artist. The work will be yours to keep.
Visit to the Straw Museum and class in the straw workshop – 1,5 h.

Excursions and workshops for schoolchildren

Programme “Journey into the Fairyland of Straw Characters”
Groups of pre-school children are invited to visit the Straw Museum. Hundreds of straw fairy tale characters – gnomes, dragons, bunnies, cats, birds, mushrooms, animals, witches and finely crafted creations such as sailing ships, pirates and a castle – will be waiting for children there. You will be able to search, identify, explore and learn all about the straw characters you meet.
The tour lasts 50 minutes. The tour is held in groups of up to 30 people.

Price for a child from 4 years – EUR 3,00
Author’s narration for a group – from EUR 10,00

Watch and learn programme
1.groups of pupils in grades 4 – 4 are invited to the Straw Museum, where they will be able to see more than 600 different straw sculptures and learn all about their creation. In the straw workshop, you will have the opportunity to learn practical skills in making straw/hay art. Under the guidance of a master craftsman, students will learn how to make their own straw figurines. You can keep the piece.
Duration 1.5 hours. The tour is for groups of 15 to 55 people.
The tour includes a visit to the museum, a workshop and a talk by the author!

Price per student – EUR 8,50

“Choosing a profession” programme
5.groups of pupils in grades 9-9 are invited to visit the Straw Museum, where more than 600 unique works of art are on display in one place, and to take part in a hands-on straw workshop. In the straw workshop you will learn new skills and find out if this trade could be for you. You will be able to get into the artist’s profession and make your own straw figurine under the guidance of a master. You can keep the piece you make.
Duration 1.5 hours. The tour is for groups of 15 to 55 people.
The tour includes a visit to the museum, a workshop and a talk by the author!

IMPORTANT

The offer is suitable for all class groups. The practical lesson is adapted to the age of the pupil. The offer of school excursions is included in the “Latvian School Bag”programme
The excursion is free of charge for the accompanying teacher!

ADDITIONAL OFFERS

We also offer off-site workshops at schools and other institutions. We also provide this service in the framework of various School Bag projects.

In the souvenir kiosk we offer a variety of souvenirs made only from straw and available only at the Straw Museum!

We make straw sculptures and decorations to order.
