Most hiking and nature trails in Lithuania are freely accessible at any time of the day or night (even midnight!), but the Čepkeliai Bog Nature Trail requires a permit. And for good reasons! As the trail passes through one of the most protected nature reserves in Lithuania (the Čepkeliai State Nature Reserve), it is only possible to visit the trail accompanied by a licensed guide.

The nature trail is rich in small architectural elements and information boards introducing the values of the Čepkeliai State Nature Reserve. However, the most impressive attraction is the 8 m high wooden observation tower, which offers a magnificent panorama of the Čepkeļi marsh. A 1.5 km long trail leads from the entrance gate to the observation tower, which leads to a viewing platform in the heart of the marsh. Information boards give you more insight into the uniqueness of the Čepkeļi National Nature Reserve and what is protected here.

The aim of the Čepkeļi Bog Nature Trail is to show visitors some of the most characteristic habitats of the Čepkeļi Nature Reserve: pine-covered continental dunes, high marshes with relict lake plants, islands, as well as plant communities typical of steppes and tundra.

The trail can only be visited with a licensed guide. the 1.5 km long trail runs from the entrance gate to the lookout tower and then leads to a viewing platform in the heart of the marsh.
