Does nature need humans to thrive? The Dubrava Reserve has been closed to economic activity for more than 50 years. Here, in the 120 ha Kaunas Lagoon Regional Park, nature itself manages. The reserve, which includes a picturesque wild forest and high marsh, is a specially protected area, but fortunately the 1.9 km-long Dubrava Nature Trail is open to all. Starting in a lush forest full of ancient trees, some of which reach a height of 38 metres, the wooden boardwalk leads to a raised bog. There are 8 information boards along the trail to educate visitors about the local flora and fauna. Strategically placed resting places and viewpoints allow for moments of reflection and appreciation of the beauty. The trail ends near a gravel road where you can turn around and go back the same way you came, or take a shorter route back. The ancient forest and wetlands, teeming with unique plants, insects and rare animals, create a fabulous atmosphere that attracts nature enthusiasts and scientists.
