The Viru Moorland Learning Trail is one of the most accessible moorland trails in Estonia, where you can enjoy the diverse nature of Lahemaa National Park.

The trail alternates forest paths with former sand dunes, hills and extensive marshland. the 3.5 km long path is signposted and equipped with information boards that tell about the formation of the bog, its importance in nature and introduce bog plants such as bindweed and bearberry. At the end of the trail, a former peat field is being restored with explanatory boards. The trail can also be followed in a circle. The length of the hike is then 5.5 km.

From the 11 m high lookout tower in the middle of the trail, you have a wonderful view of the whole bog. A wide footbridge (1.3 km) leads to the tower, which is also suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs, and the first platform of the tower is accessible without steps. The boardwalk becomes narrower from then on. The nearby Kalmeojas bonfire site offers the possibility to rest or stay overnight.

Discover the charm of Viru Marsh – just an hour’s ride from Tallinn!
