As summer approaches, the joy of anticipation is welling up in all of us – we want to smell the fragrant aroma of strawberries from the backyard garden, to celebrate Midsummer and welcome the sunset, to enjoy the cooling touch of the lakes and to keep the memories of the fast passing summer in the warmest corner of our hearts. And so much to find a haven of peace, where you can reflect on your life, your future, talk to God and feel a surge of strength for the coming months. And this is an integral part of summer that comes with childhood and is kept in memory like a fragile porcelain vessel – another meeting with Aglona Basilica in the middle of the month of Rye to talk with Our Lady.

Aglona Basilica was built in the late Baroque style and is decorated with two towers about 60 metres high. Every year on 15 August, pilgrims come to Aglona to celebrate the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.

The Aglona Basilica is one of the best-known holy places in the world, with its interior vaults, arches and columns, richly decorated with Rococo ornaments. Aglona and its heart is undeniably Aglona Catholic Church is the centre of Latvian Catholicism and a holy place of world importance.
