Apriki Museum
Apriki Museum

Apriķu Manor Museum is a museum full of fairy tales and history for children and schoolchildren – a place where gnomes, legends, treasure hunts and historical adventures meet.

Apriķu Manor is a Baroque architectural monument where students will learn about and pay attention to architectural values – history, architecture, art. In the manor museum you can explore, see and encounter the manor’s authentic interior treasures: pediment bricks, baroque stove, mantelpiece, inlaid oak doors, oak parquet and plank floors and upholstery. The moulding is considered one of the finest examples of monumental decorative stone sculpture in Latvia.

Students will explore, analyse and evaluate different types of information, learning how to analyse and summarise information from different sources, evaluating opinions and facts. They will search for the facts they have learned in the exhibition and verify them with the game tasks on the “Discovering the secrets of the manor” working card. Travel through the museum exhibition, finding the right path with the task to be performed. In the exhibition you have to find the answer to the question and follow the clues. Once all the stopping points have been found, conversations take place to consolidate the points of view.
After the practical work, the pupils will get an impression of the historic building and its intrinsic values. They will gain artistic enjoyment, respect for the historical heritage, evoke emotions and be inspired to new explorations. A desire to experience and discover more.

Aim:
To promote awareness of cultural heritage as an interesting national asset to be preserved, explored and used meaningfully in learning today by giving students the opportunity to encounter, learn about, experience and enjoy the architectural and artistic values of an 18th century cultural monument, as well as highlighting the significance of cultural heritage today.
Stories and values of Apriki Manor as a teaching and educational resource in different curriculum areas.

  1. Creating historical awareness – using the authentic architectural values of the manor house to evoke a sense of shared experience and the opportunity to see the world through the eyes of a person from another era.
  2. Understanding the timeline or sequence of historical events.
  3. Practical work – worksheets.
  4. Reflection – conversation, listening to ideas.

We are aware that much can be learned through culture and cultural values, and therefore there is a need to build cultural relationships, which are an important factor in shaping people’s quality of life.

Learning about cultural values will teach us to respect values, to strive for truth, to emphasise responsibility, to provide new surprises and to understand the values created by others throughout the ages.
Benefits: students’ horizons, creativity, imagination will be broadened.

The museum’s teaching sessions will ensure regular use of the programme and will be available on weekdays throughout the school year.
Target audience: grades 1-4, grades 5-9.
The specialists of the manor will offer an educational way with elements of an orienteering game to repeat the newly acquired knowledge and discover more facts about Apriki Manor.
