The Kaņieris Castle Hill Nature Trail is located at the Kaņieris Lake on the 8th kilometre of the Antiņciems-Jāņkrogs road, leading through the forest and herbal swamp to Kaņieris Castle Hill. On the way it crosses a stone rampart, which may have been associated with the castle mound. Historians still argue about how old Kaņieris Castle Mound is and who inhabited it. Some believe that it is a very old tribal settlement, others that it was used by sea robbers to attack ships.
The Kaņieris Lake Mound was discovered in 1867 by V. Döring. It has been much written about, but has not been studied archaeologically. E.Brastiņš found it unusual as it is the only mound located so close to the sea in a marshy and uninhabited area.
At the end of the trail there is a viewing platform from which you can see Lake Kaņieris.
The trail is circular and its total length is 1.3 km.
