ABOUT THE MUSEUM
The museum promotes the tangible and intangible values created by previous generations living in the municipality, as well as those newly created by the times, through appropriate collections, exhibitions, displays and educational events. The museum’s collection comprises 19,000 items. It reflects the history, economic, educational and cultural development of the region, the role of notable personalities in various events of the region’s and the country’s history.
OFFERS
- In Polikarpas Čerņavskis Ceramics House, the common message of the main exposition THE WARM OF THE WIRE is a heartfelt story dedicated to the Silajāņi ceramics master Polikarpas Čerņavskis (1923-1997). The content of the story is revealed by the objects from the Museum’s collections: potter’s lathes, tools and magnificent ceramics.

The main exhibition of the Museum Stories for Latvia consists of nine separate stories about the historical scene of Preili as a settlement from the earliest times to the present day. Through the material evidence of the history of the Preili region and the life stories of people, the exhibition reflects significant events in Latgale’s past that have shaped the perception and values of people living in Latvia today. The exhibition consists of nine separate stories, different in design, which together provide information about the formation and development of the land of Preiļi from the Late Iron Age to the present day.
- The chapel of the Borhi nobles, built in 1817 and renovated in 2006, features reproductions of works by Italian Renaissance painters and sculptures by sculptor Ēvī Upeniece, created by students of the Art Academy of Latvia.
