ABOUT US

The most modern and largest digital planetarium in the Baltics, as well as an observatory equipped with a modern telescope and the Ventspils House of Creativity are located in a historical building – the Ventspils Latvian Society House, which was reconstructed in 2010.

The Ventspils Youth House is an interest education institution open to children and young people from 3 to 25 years of age, offering 55 differently named clubs.

PLANETARY

The planetarium dome is 8 metres in diameter and has seating for 40 visitors.* A planetarium show lasts approximately 40 minutes. The duration may vary during events and on public holidays. The sessions focus on exploring the part of the Universe closest to Earth, with one of the 360-degree films (planetarium repertoire) being shown during the session, revealing more of the secrets held in the Universe. The screenings are offered daily and their content is regularly updated and changed, so that visitors can be surprised by new discoveries when they return to visit us again

The films are in Latvian, but you can also listen to the text in Russian, Lithuanian or English on headphones.

We welcome groups of schoolchildren for interactive lessons + film. More information on our website: http://jaunradesnams.lv/izglitibas-iestadem/

For the convenience of visitors, please book your tickets by phone +371 636 22805 or by e-mail: planetarijs.observatorija@ventspils.lv.

OBSERVATORY*

The Observatory, located on the roof of the House of Creativity, is equipped with a high-quality telescope for daytime observations of the Sun. Two filters are used to observe the Sun: a mirror filter helps to see sunspots, and a hydrogen filter allows us to observe solar prominences and flares, if any are observed that day.

*By appointment, weather permitting. The Observatory is not open to the public if there is precipitation, winds of more than 45 km per hour, or 12 m per second, overcast or variable cloud cover. The staff of the Ventspils Planetarium and Observatory asks you to assess the weather conditions before visiting the Observatory.
