🎧 Audio guide: “The Iron Fist of the Ādaži Collective Farm”

We invite you to explore the history of Ādaži Municipality through this audio guide!

The town of Ādaži, as we know it today, began to take shape in the 1960s around what is now Līgo Square. At that time, Ādaži was known primarily as a collective farm, which existed for 41 years and had a significant impact on the lives of many Latvians.

The collective farm system, in which membership was compulsory, destroyed private property and left a deep mark on society, despite Soviet propaganda. On this walk, you will learn how Ādaži developed during the Soviet era, when the collective farm and later ‘Agrofirma Ādaži’ organised production – animal husbandry, bread baking and horticulture – and also built significant public buildings.

The collective farm was established as a model farm, used to impress foreign visitors, whilst concealing the true reality behind the “Iron Curtain”.
