The Green Synagogue in Rezekne is the oldest wooden building in the city (1845) and the only one of the 11 synagogues that has survived to the present day. In the Old Town quarter of Rezekne, next to the market, school, church and merchants’ shops, the Green Synagogue, with its wooden architectural heritage, marks a distinctive colour of the multinational urban environment even today.

2016In 2016, the Green Synagogue was gently renovated and offers visitors the opportunity to see its unique features – the under-floor genizah, a repository of ancient texts containing artefacts found during restoration under glass, as well as the oven for baking Matzah, the unleavened bread of the Pesach holiday.

With the help of digital technologies, visitors can learn about the history and traditional culture of Rezekne Jews.

  • a guided tour of the synagogue, where you can learn about the history and traditional culture of the Jewish people;
  • an interactive museum educational programme “From Purim to Hanukkah”.

For groups, tours are organised on any day by prior arrangement.
