Monument “Dedication to the Latvian Provisional National Council”
Raiņa iela 9A, Valka

The monument was unveiled on 2 December 2017 as part of the Latvian centenary programme, on the occasion of the meeting of the Latvian Provisional National Council in 1917.

This monument is a tribute to a significant event in the history of the Latvian state: the 1st session of the Latvian Provisional National Council, attended by representatives of almost all the most influential Latvian public organisations and political parties. For the first time, they officially declared the aim of their activities – the establishment of an independent nation state, and adopted a declaration on the establishment of a united and autonomous Latvia in the Latvian districts of Vidzeme, Kurzeme and Latgale. The building in which they gathered is still preserved in Valga, Estonia.

The monument to the Latvian Provisional National Council is a kind of debt repayment to the people who, in 1917, were responsible for the establishment of the Latvian Provisional National Council.

The idea of the ensemble was created by sculptor Arta Dumpe, the stonemason – Ivars Feldbergs, the architectural planning was done by SIA “Arhitektu birojs Vecumnieks & Bērziņi”.
