An open-air stage is located in the west of Valka in the valley of the river Pedele.

The site is notable for the fact that the stage is separated from the spectator seats by the river Pedele, which flows through the town of Valka. Two bridges across the river connect the spectator seats and the stage. The stage has 2000 seats and the audience has about 2000 seats.

The monumental sculpture “Koklētājs”, made of chunite stone, is located on Rūjienas Street near the open-air stage Avotkalns. The sculpture was unveiled in 1972 to commemorate the centenary of the first General Latvian Singing Festival. The sculptors Ojārs Siliņš and Arvīds Voitkāns and the architect Voldemārs Šusts.

There is a car park.
