It is one of the most beautiful pink Devonian sandstone outcrops in Latvia, located on the bank of the Amata River, surrounded by forests and meadows.
The outcrop has two relative parts – in the south-east there is a 44 m high, semicircularly curved cliff, in the north-west there is a rock outcrop of up to 19 m high, washed by the Amata. The total length of the escarpment is about 200 m. A little further down the Zvārte Rock, on the other bank of the Amata, is the Migla Rock, also called Čūsku Rock (25 m high).
The view from both the river and the top of the rock, where a staircase leads, is outstanding. The rock is endowed with many legends and tales about witches and devils who have been active in the vicinity, especially during the winter and summer solstice.
Zvārte Rock is a protected geological natural monument, located in the Gauja National Park.
