“Bridge to Nowhere” reminds us of the once planned construction of the Tukums – Kuldīga narrow-gauge railway, which was started already during the Republic of Latvia in the late 1930s, by engineer P. Pavulāns. However, it is remembered as a German war memorial because the German authorities tried to continue and complete it in the 1940s, but did not finish it. The railway was interrupted by the Second World War, but the bridge that was built has remained in the middle of the meadow until today. It is a bridge that leads nowhere.
In 2008, the bridge to nowhere was included in the European Heritage List “Extraordinary Cultural Heritage”.
To see the bridge, please park your vehicle at the ceramics workshop “Upmalnieki” of the ceramist Uģs Dainis on the other side of the road and then enjoy the view of the bridge.
