About the Sēļu sēta
The ‘Sēļu sēta’ Open-Air Section of the Jēkabpils History Museum offers an insight into the traditional way of life, daily life and cultural heritage of the Sēlija region. During your visit, you can explore the old buildings, everyday household items, craft traditions and the daily life of a Sēlija farmer.
“Sēļu sēta” is suitable for individual visitors and families, as well as school groups, for whom practical and educational workshops are offered.
🎒 OFFER for school groups
Educational sessions are available for schoolchildren at the Selian Farmstead, combining history and nature with hands-on activities.
During the session, pupils learn about various medicinal plants, their uses on a Sēļu farm and in traditional sauna rituals.
In the second part of the session, pupils take part in a hands-on activity, using the plants offered and salt to make a body scrub, which they can take home with them after the session.
💶 Participation fee: €3 per pupil
👥 Minimum number of participants: 10 people
During the session, pupils learn about the history of papermaking and take part in the papermaking process themselves.
The paper is made from recycled material – newspaper clippings. Pupils shred the newspaper, add water, create a paper pulp and use it to form new sheets of paper. These can be decorated with dried flowers to create a greeting card, which pupils can take home after the session.
