The nature trail of Kokši Lakes is located in the specially protected nature area “Ziemeļgauja”. Information about the specially protected nature territories, the Northern Gauja and its natural treasures – forest and water biotopes, habitats of various species, birds and animals – can be found on the stands along the trail.

The series of Kokši Lakes consists of Dibena, Dziļais, Zāli and Leišu Lakes. The Kokšupīte, a tributary of the left bank of the Gauja River, flows through them. The average depth of the lakes is 8-14 m.
The trail has several routes. One is around the Zāli Lake for 2.7 km. The other is around the Grass and Deep Lakes for 4.5 km. You can also cycle along a 7 km route around the Zali, Deep and Diben lakes. At the beginning of the trail there is an information board with a trail diagram and description. To avoid getting lost, note that the lakes will always be on your right as you walk around them!

The best footwear for the walking route will be shoes that can walk on a stouter log or wade into a wetter area.

Remember that campfires should only be built at the resting places next to the lakes and rubbish should be disposed of in the containers provided for this purpose!

The Kokši Lakes Nature Trail was established in 2011 by the Nature Conservation Agency with the financial support of the Latvian State Forests East Vidzeme Forestry.
