Būšnieka Lake has become a wonderful destination for active recreation enthusiasts, whose special natural beauty can now be enjoyed not only by swimmers and boaters, but also by cyclists, joggers, walkers and ornithologists.

The project “Improvement of the infrastructure of the nature reserve “Būšnieku Lake Shore”” is now fully completed, so that the inhabitants of the city and its guests can follow an 8 km cycling route around Būšnieku Lake – a pedestrian and cycling path has been built around the lake, from the boat base in Staldzenes Street to Talsu Street for 3.424 km, a 187 m long footbridge and a viewing platform for birdwatching at the end of the footbridge, on which 2 benches and an information board with pictures of nesting and migratory birds in Būšnieku Lake have also been installed. Information boards about the nature reserve and its flora and fauna have been installed along the cycle path. Active lifestyle enthusiasts will also enjoy the health trail with 10 exercise benches for all age groups.

The newly created footbridge with viewing platform will be a great asset for ornithology lovers. Around 34 bird species have been observed in the lake, which during the breeding season concentrate in the SW part of Lake Būšnieku.
