Would you like to find out how the environment affects us and how we affect the environment?

The Nature Centre of the Northern Vidzeme Biosphere Reserve welcomes anyone with an interest in nature. We offer exciting and educational activities for pre-school children, school pupils and adults alike.

We offer themed sessions based on the curriculum, which complement the everyday learning process with practical experience in the great outdoors.

🔎 Interactive sessions

Interactive sessions involving active participation from participants:

• Latvia’s specially protected nature areas;
• the known and unknown aspects of the Baltic Sea and its coastline;
• animals and the traces they leave behind in nature;
• the water cycle and its importance in the lives of humans, animals and plants;
• bird identification and observation along the coast, understanding migratory birds;
• trees in our surroundings, giant trees – measuring, identifying and understanding their significance;
• assessing air quality, or what sort of air we breathe;
• processes in nature throughout the different seasons;
• the link between biodiversity and people’s everyday activities.

🥾 Nature walks

Walks to learn about plants, animals and their interconnections in the food chain, both in human life and in nature:

• along the coast;
• through the marshes;
• through a dune forest;
• through a coppice;
• in the Randu meadows.

🌱 Nature Centre exhibition

The Nature Centre has put together an exhibition on ecosystems – exploring the diversity of natural processes and the world around us. The exhibition is designed to be easily accessible to both adults and the centre’s youngest visitors.

🔬 Step into the role of a nature explorer

Visitors are invited to explore nature and its processes in an exciting and hands-on way. Using a soil probe, magnifying glass, measuring tape, various types of thermometers and insect nets, everyone can step into the role of a nature explorer.

Sessions take place both indoors and outdoors, as we set off to explore the coastline, the dune forest and the banks of the Salaca. This is an exciting experience for nature enthusiasts of all ages, encouraging them to observe, explore and gain a better understanding of their surroundings.

💶 Prices

• Nature education session at the Nature Centre and in the surrounding area – €45.00 per session (for groups of up to 30 people, up to 2 hours).
• Nature education session on an excursion – 40.00 EUR per hour.

Travel expenses are added to the cost of field trips.
