ABOUT US
To better understand the interaction between the environment and human activities, we invite people of all ages to visit the nature education centre “Ziemeļvidzeme”.
For pre-school children and schoolchildren, we have developed a range of activities based on the curriculum.
OFFER
Interactive activities with the active participation of the participants:
- Latvia’s specially protected nature areas,
- the known and unknown in the Baltic Sea and its coasts,
- animals and the traces they leave in nature,
- the water cycle and the importance of water for human, animal and plant life,
- identifying and observing birds along the coast, understanding migratory birds,
- trees in our surroundings, conifers – measuring them, recognising their importance,
- air quality or what kind of air we breathe,
- events in nature in different seasons;
- biodiversity in relation to everyday human activities.
Hikes to learn about plants, animals and their interconnection in the food chain, both in human life and in nature:
- along the coast,
- in the marsh,
- in the dune forest
- in the mudflats,
- in the Rand meadows
The exhibition “Salmon in Honour” – about the salmon’s journey from sea to river and back. Visitors will learn what smolts are, how to distinguish between salmon and sea trout, what threatens salmon and how. The lessons and excursions use finders, binoculars, magnifying glasses, insect catching cups, thermometers for measuring soil and water temperature, games. The lessons are free of charge.
