🌿 About the Ķemeri National Park Nature Centre
Ķemeri National Park is a particularly suitable venue for educational school trips, where learning takes place in the natural environment and pupils have the opportunity to discover Latvia’s natural diversity for themselves.
During nature study sessions, pupils can gain hands-on experience of the surrounding environment, observe natural processes and link the knowledge they have learnt at school to the real world.
📚 The offer for pupils
🌾 Bog lesson in the Great Ķemeri Moor
The extensive network of boardwalks in the Great Ķemeri Moor offers the chance to visit the raised bog, discover and study its plants and animals, admire the unique bog landscape and learn a great deal about the amazing world of the bog.
During the excursion, pupils will learn:
- how a bog is formed and how it differs from other natural areas;
- which plants and animals have adapted to life in the bog;
- why bogs are important for nature and people;
- how bogs help to store carbon and influence the climate;
- why bogs must be protected and how human activity can affect them.
When out in nature, pupils will have the opportunity to observe their surroundings for themselves, look for and identify various natural features, and ask questions. Such experiences help to link what they have learnt to the real environment and make learning more engaging and memorable.
🔬 STEM project activities
At the Ķemeri National Park Nature Centre, pupils have access to a wide range of natural science activities funded by the STEM and civic participation project, with an offer tailored to various age groups – from primary to secondary school.
During the sessions, pupils learn through hands-on exploration of nature and the ecosystems of Ķemeri National Park. Depending on the chosen programme, they study plants and animals, their habitats and interrelationships, food chains, elements of living and non-living nature, water quality and the characteristics of various ecosystems.
For pupils in the older year groups, topics such as invasive species, biodiversity, specially protected nature areas and the conservation of endangered wild species are also covered. The sessions incorporate games, practical investigations, identification of natural features, measurements, group work, modelling and analysis of the results obtained.
The STEM sessions are suitable for pupils in Years 1 to 12. The venues and content of individual programmes vary, so the most suitable session can be chosen according to the pupils’ age and the topic being studied.

The meeting point and start of the activity are at the car park of the Great Ķemeri Moor.
Parking is free for buses carrying school groups.

- Nature education session at the nature centre and in the surrounding area – 45.00 EUR per session (for groups of up to 30 people, up to 2 hours).
