The Skaistkalne Magazīna barn is historically part of the overall Skaistkalne (Schönberg) manor ensemble. The building dates from the early 19th century and is constructed of dressed rubble, textured with a fine pattern of mortar stucco – it was once used for storing food reserves (mostly cereals). The building is characterised by its thick walls and walls, as well as its narrow, gunport-like windows and low arched entrance door. The Magazines Barn is one of the most distinctive elements of the former manor house ensemble – it is an architectural monument of regional importance.
An interactive exhibition on the karst deposits of Skaistkalne and their geological processes is currently on display here!
The Skaistkalnes Magazines Barn houses an interactive and educational exhibition to highlight the uniqueness of Skaistkalnes and to educate about the geological and geomorphological processes on this side. The aim of the exhibition is to use multimedia solutions to show what the Skaistkalnes karst falls are, how they are formed, what happens underground and above ground, and simply to surprise visitors. The interactive exhibition will be complemented by a hike to the Skaistkalnes karst falls in the forest to see these unique natural values with your own eyes. The exhibition is suitable for both adults and children – it is also possible to participate in creative plaster workshops.
Free admission.
