Temple Hill is the oldest inhabited place in the Aluksne region, with the Temple of Glory – a granite rotunda – on its summit, which reaches 216.7m above sea level. One of the legends says that during the Great Northern War, the warriors wore hats on the Temple Hill in order to be better able to fire at the Aluksne Castle on the island in the lake.
In 1807, the owner of the Aluksne manor, Alexander von Fütinghoff, had a granite rotunda – the Temple of Glory – built on its summit to commemorate the events of the Great Northern War in Aluksne. The classical-style rotunda is dedicated to the memory of Russian Field Marshal Sheremetyev and Swedish Army Captain Wulf.
In 1937, the construction of tourist facilities on Temple Hill began. One of the attractions was an air bridge, which was named the Sun Bridge.

Today, the surroundings of the Temple Mount are suitable for tourists and holidaymakers. From the top of the hill you can enjoy a wide view of Lake Aluksne and the Manor Park, as well as the Castle Island.

For those who want to conquer higher peaks, the Templis Hill Park is home to a 37.8 metre high observation tower, one of the tallest in Latvia. It offers a wonderful view of Lake Aluksne and the town. Are you ready to climb the 153 steps?

The Pilssala and Temple Hill are connected by the Tempļakalna Street pedestrian bridge, which during the round hours from 10:00 to 24:00, for the first 15 minutes, entertains with special mood music.
