Orienteering is a sport in which the participant has to follow a map or compass on a chosen orienteering course and find checkpoints in nature. There are 4 different orienteering courses in the Vecumnieki area – Pavēles distance 1 (results here), Pavēles distance 2 (resultshere), Rogainings (results here)and the Walking Trail.
In the case of the Command Course 1, the participant has to find 24 checkpoints in the order 1, 2, 3, 4, etc., choosing the roads and shortcuts to the checkpoints as they see fit – the length of this course is 4,6 km (as the crow flies).
For Command Distance 2, the rules are the same as for Command Distance 1, but the total route is longer – 7 km as the crow flies, and there are 28 checkpoints to find in total. The time limit for the Rogaining course is 40 minutes, during which the competitor must find as many checkpoints as possible – which he/she will visit, assess before setting off on the course.
Inthe case of the walking trail, there is no limit – you can simply do it at your leisure, testing your orienteering skills and seeing Vecumnieki from a different point of view – during this distance you have to find a word combination, its letters hidden in each of the checkpoints.
What if you are at the right checkpoint but there is no QR code and no checkpoint? It’s probably been destroyed. To allow the organisers to rebuild it as soon as possible and to allow other participants to check it, please SMS 25464261 with the checkpoint number. The code 99999 must be entered manually in the app, which will be replaced by the real one later in the results if it turns out that the CP is indeed damaged or missing.
