Europe’s widest natural waterfall (249 m) is linked to a number of legends and historical events. Kuldīga was known in ancient times as the city where salmon are caught in the air, thanks to the fish-catching devices invented by Duke Jacob and placed on the hub. Fish still fly here in spring and autumn. The width of the hub is influenced by the amount of water, on average it is 200 to 250 metres wide, but during floods it can reach up to 270 metres! The height of the waterfall varies from 1.6 to 2.2 metres. The Pargazne is formed by a rather interesting zigzag line. The Venta hub is a nature monument and is part of the Venta Valley Nature Reserve.
