ABOUT US

The Museum of Krāslava Municipality is located in the former servants’ house of the Count Broel Plater Palace complex, built in the 18th century at Pils Street 8. The renovated stable building at Pils Street 10 houses three exhibitions and two open collections.

The museum’s collection contains 27 500 items, which characterise the peculiarity and uniqueness of the Krāslava region from the earliest times to the present day. Among them are archaeological objects, a large collection of ethnographic objects, documents, photographs, valuable books of the 18th-19th centuries. The museum’s art collection includes more than 1,000 pieces of fine art.

Every two months, new exhibitions of artworks are presented in the museum’s exhibition hall, and at the same time, it is possible to get acquainted with thematic exhibitions of various contents and view exhibitions from the museum’s collection. Exhibitions of works by artists from the Krāslava region have become a tradition.

Permanent exhibitions and open collections

  • “Five Oars” – a unique exhibition created in a 17-metre-long improvised boat, which provides an opportunity to trace the interaction of five nationalities living in Krāslava over the centuries, starting from the earliest times;
  • The interior exhibition “The Notary’s Office of Count Plater” – offers a visually captivating and content-rich message about the cultural and historical development of Krāslava;
  • Multimedia exposition “COCK CODE.Wooden Architectural Values of Krāslava” – tells about the historical wooden architecture of Krāslava and its surroundings. The exposition also tells about the buildings that have survived to the present day as living proof of the ancient way of life, skills and cultural heritage;
  • “Pi vīna golda – tells about the culinary traditions of the five main nationalities of Krāslava;
  • “Artist Valentin Zlidnis’ Studio” – a story about the colourful painter of Latgale Valentin Zlidnis;
  • The open collection “The Legacy of the Sculptor Vanda Zēvalde” – provides public access to the work of the sculptor V. Zēvalde, gaining knowledge and artistic enjoyment;
  • The open collection “The Story of the Old House” – reflects the variety of household objects and the furnishing of the living space in the period from the late 19th century to the 1970s.

  • 6,00 EUR – family ticket (1 or 2 adults with 1-4 children under 18 years)

Visiting the Museum’s exhibitions and displays is free for people with special needs, orphans and children without parental care, politically repressed persons, employees of accredited Latvian museums, ICOM members (with proof of status), pre-school children .
