18th century architectural monument of national importance. The construction of the central building of the complex – the residence of the Count Plater family was started around 1765 according to the project of the architect A. Parako. The construction was completed in 1791. The interior wall paintings of the castle are the most outstanding monument of 18th century Latgalian secular architecture. Alongside the castle, outbuildings were also constructed: the houses of the castle steward and gardener, bunkhouses, stables, ice cellars and an orangery. Around the castle, on the slopes of the Daugava valley, a landscape park of about 22 hectares was created. Even today, the arboretum has a very wide range of trees and shrubs – around 70 different species. The park has a restored grotto with a mysterious “underground passage” and a lion, the guardian of the castle. One of the buildings of the complex houses the Krāslava Museum of History and Art. In 2019, the exhibition “The Studio of the Artist Valentin Zlidnis” and the open collection “The Legacy of the Sculptor Vanda Zeuvalde” will open in the stables, and in 2021, the exhibition “The Legacy of the Sculptor Vanda Zeuvalde” will open in the stables. In 2021, the open collection “The Story of the Old House” will be on display, reflecting the variety of household objects and the furnishing of the living space from the late 19th century to the 1970s.
