From the 14th to the 20th centuries, St. Fragments of the oldest altar of St George’s Church. The closest 14th-century architectural monument to Riga; Romanesque and Gothic features (remains of Gothic window columns, niches, etc.). For many centuries the church was at the centre of religious and social life in Salaspils, and also at the centre of warfare in different periods.
St George’s Church was built around 1380, probably at the same time as Salaspils Castle. The church is named after St. George, the spiritual defender of the Livonian Order. Jura. The church was built of dolomites and large bricks. Judging by the few 17th-19th century plans, drawings and the remains of the preserved altarpiece, the building had Gothic features. St. In 1629, when the Polish forces reached Salaspils, but were met with artillery fire, they retreated towards Baldone. In 1638, the church of St. George in Salaspils was rebuilt. In 1674, the church was rebuilt in neo-Gothic style, a tiled roof was put on and the parish was almost doubled in size. The bell hangs in a small wall opening. The church remained as it was for more than 200 years.
During the First World War, St. During the First World War, St George’s Church was destroyed. While the ruined church was being repaired, services were held in the school in Salaspils, and in the cemetery and in the open air during the summer, as the troops occupied all the school premises during the “lager period”. The Ladies’ Committee of the congregation actively collected donations for the renovation of the church. This is the last time the church will be renovated. The church suffered relatively little during the Second World War, but left unattended it is gradually being vandalised. During the construction of the hydroelectric power station, mechanical workshops are being set up within the church walls. In 1973, the church was renovated.
