The wooden footbridges for walking in the area between Sniega Street, Vītolu Road, Būriņu Road and Miezītes Road reveal another corner of the city’s nature – the floodplain meadows of the River Svētes.

The total length of the footbridges is approximately 1.6 kilometres and they connect to three gravel paths. The footbridges are built at a height of one and a half metres to allow access even during floods. For pedestrian safety, the wooden footbridges are equipped with handrails in which a special mesh is installed. To promote the diversity of flora, 1.2 hectares of meanders or wetlands have been created in the floodplain meadows, which are planted with a variety of plants, such as scented calamus, common reed and willow wisteria.

You can park your car on the Miezīte road, opposite the pond, on the Būriņu road or in the square on Vītolu road by the culvert.

The wooden footbridges in the meadows of the Svēte floodplain are part of the European Regional Development Fund project “Implementation of complex measures to restore the flow of the Svēte River to reduce flood risks in adjacent areas”, Part 1 “Creation of green infrastructure in adjacent areas of Sniega Street”.
