Tanis Hill or Tanis Castle Hill is a castle hill in Rauna, located at the mouth of the river Līčupe, on the right bank of the river Rauna and on the left side of the road Priekuļi-Rauna (P28).
Tanis Castle Hill was one of the largest and most fortified ancient Latgalian castle hills. The hill has been inhabited since the 6th century BC. There is a possibility that it may have been the site of the Satekle Castle, ruled by the ancient Latgalian chieftain Rūsiņš.
One of the most extensive archaeological excavations on the mound took place in 1927 under the leadership of archaeologist Františ Balodis. In the north-eastern part of the mound, a wooden building with two living quarters and a furnace vestibule was found. The building dates back to the 11th-13th centuries. It is considered to be one of the possible sites of Beverin.
The hill is 60 metres above sea level and 25 metres above the level of the mill lake. The 100 metre long and 30 metre wide surface of the hill is level and the sides are permanent. There is a 3 metre high rampart at the north-eastern end and a half metre high rampart on the south-western slope. A terrace of approximately 25 metres wide has been created on the south-eastern edge of the hill.
Tanīskalns is an archaeological monument of national importance (protection number: 542).
