The present manor complex was built on the site of a stone castle built in the 14th century and destroyed in 1577. The manor castle (late 18th century, classical style) was destroyed several times during its existence (1905, World War I) and subsequently rebuilt. At the end of the 19th century, an extension was added – an impressive square tower in neo-Gothic style. From 1927 to 1975 the castle was the seat of an agricultural school, now the Dzērbene parish administration, a folk house and a music school. The castle is surrounded by a park with a cascade of seven ponds.

There is a local history exhibition in the castle, which contains materials and exhibits on various periods of history.

It is also possible to take a tour of the castle with or without ghost stories and visit the ghost chamber.
