The NE part of Gulbene is adjacent to the large former Vecgulbene Manor Park, which was begun in the last quarter of the 19th century. In the centre of the park is a pond that curves picturesquely through the trees in the shape of the letter M to recall the beginning of the name of Baron Wolf’s beautiful wife Marisa.

Emze Park is one of the oldest specially protected nature territories in Latvia, having been granted the status of a nature monument in 1923.

Three walking trails of different lengths have been created in the territory of Emze Park, connecting it with the nearby Spārīte Park, which was also once part of Marija Park. These are three thematic trails of about 8 kilometres in length, which, linking the past with the present, have been given historical names: the Heinrich, the Marissa and the Switzer Trails. The trails are marked.

There are information boards about 15 rare birds that live in the Emze Park. The stands have pictures, some information about the birds and a QR code, which can be scanned to hear the birds’ voices.

The stands are located on the Svētezers trail, the starting point of which is in Spārīte Park.

It is possible to go on a guided tour along this trail with ornithologist and nature researcher Elvija Kantāns (t. 26264611).
