More than 80 wild horses graze on an island behind Jelgava Castle, in the flooded meadows of the Lielupe floodplain. In summer 2018, a wooden observation tower with a picnic area was built here to enjoy the wild horses, birds, two rivers and the city skyline.

The observation tower is 19.2 metres or six storeys high, with a wooden staircase leading up to the upper viewing platform. The first level of the tower is accessible for people with reduced mobility.

The 3.2 km long Health Trail starts from the lookout tower towards the north of Castle Island, suitable for walking, Nordic walking and cycling. The Health Trail is closed during the bird breeding season from 1 April to 30 June, when wild horses and birds can only be seen from the lookout tower.
